Smartphones, tablets, and laptops have made it possible to watch videos and movies just about anywhere. As long as you have a WiFi connection and a device, you have the items necessary to watch videos. However, these videos are limited to your device’s screen, which is typically so small that only one person can see it comfortably at a time. But there is a solution. That’s why I have created a list of Best Pocket Projectors 2018.
Fortunately, there is an electronic tool available for purchase that will allow you to project your device’s screen onto just about any surface. This tool is a pocket projector. Aptly named, pocket projectors are small projectors which can be carried around in your pocket. Since they connect to your smartphone, tablet, or laptop through your wireless connection, they are capable of projecting your device’s screen onto a wall. So a pocket projector can turn your compact smartphone into an immersive, full-scale movie screen.

1. New 1 Android Pocket Projector – Best Battery-Powered Video Projector
Like many of the other companies that we reviewed, New 1 is a company that relies exclusively on the only online business model. Again, this generally allows the company to offer their products for a significantly lower cost than their competitors – though this is not actually the case for the New 1 as this is actually the most expensive portable projector that we reviewed. On top of that, New 1 does not even specialize in visual equipment specifically or even consumer electronics specifically. Still, the New 1 does offer some unique benefits that we did not see on any other product that we reviewed.
Though all of the projectors we reviewed are portable due to their compact profile and extremely light weight, the New 1 portable projector is even easier to transport because of a single quality: a battery. In fact, the New 1 portable projector is actually the only portable projector on our list that comes with a battery, making it the most portable portable projector that we reviewed. On top of the fact that the New 1 portable projector comes with a battery, the battery itself is a pretty decent one.
Though it is not the only portable projector on our list that can make such a claim, the fact that the New 1 portable projector is able to connect wirelessly is a huge benefit that only increases the portability of the projector. For instance, this portable projector is able to connect wirelessly through pretty much all of the major channels including Bluetooth, WiFi, and even Android’s proprietary NFC. That said, it is worth noting that you will need a particular type of app to use these functions, and the app is not noted for being the friendliest. Still, this is truly the “take anywhere” portable projector.

4. Mobile Pico Video Projector – Best Lightweight Pocket Projector
While all pocket projectors are fairly lightweight, the Mobile Pico Video Projector takes light to a whole new level. Weighing in at just 0.58 pounds, you will barely even be able to tell that it’s in your pocket. It measures in at 5.7 inches x 3.1 inches x 0.71 inches. Making use of a rechargeable battery, it lasts around 90 minutes on a full charge.
At its peak, this projector can project images of up to 120 inches at a resolution of 854 x 480. This projector comes with an Android operating system which allows for seamless downloads of Netflix, Hulu, and other media apps. So it can be used by itself, or by connecting it to external devices wirelessly or with wires.
If you’re looking for a pocket projector that you can carry around with you everywhere, this is a great option. It’s so slim and so light that it hardly puts any impact on your pocket. Despite this, it’s uber-powerful and capable of firing up whenever it’s been charged. In essence, the Mobile Pico Video Projector is great device which can be transported and stored away with ease.
5. iCodis CB-100S Mini Portable Projector – Best Built-in Speakers
The iCodis CB-100S Mini Portable Projector stands out for its exceptional speaker quality. Equipped with an 8-watt speaker, it delivers clear, full, nuanced sound regardless of what you’re listening to. This projector is fairly compact and easy to transport, measuring in at 6.9 inches x 4.5 inches x 2.6 inches and weighing in at 1.1 pounds. Powered by a rechargeable battery, it can run for up to 90 minutes on a full charge.
This projector is stocked with an Android operating system, providing you with a user-friendly interface that allows for seamless app selection. In fact, you can watch YouTube, Netflix, and Hulu with this projector without even having to connect to a device. Where it does falter a bit is in its picture size and quality. At its peak, it can produce a 60 inch picture with a resolution of 800 x 480.
6. Magnasonic LED Pocket Pico Video Projector – Most Compact Pocket Projector
The Magnasonic LED Pocket Pico Video Projector measures in at just 0.5 inches x 3.9 inches x 3 inches, making it as small as any pocket projector you’re going to find. Equipped with a rechargeable battery, it can project for up to 2 hours on a fully charged battery. This makes it great for mobile and outdoor use.
Unfortunately, this projector does not possess WiFi capabilities. It must be connected directly to a device via a HDMI cable. However, once it is connected, it can project screens of up to 60 inches. While this isn’t as large as some other models, it’s still terrific considering small physical size. Picture resolution tops out at 640 x 360.
Available for a mid-level price, the Magnasonic is a great choice for someone looking for a simple, small projector to have on hand. It can’t produce pictures that are as big or of as high of quality as some projectors, but it doesn’t produce small pictures either. It should, however, be noted that an additional adapter is required to projector from Apple devices.
7. CiBest BL45 LED Video Projector – Best Value for the Money
CiBest, like many of the other companies on our list, is only online business, though in this instance the general tendency of only online companies using the savings from reduced overhead costs to lower their prices follows through. Still, it should be known that the company does not specialize exclusively in visual electronics though they do specialize in consumer electronics more broadly. On top of that, the CiBEst is also able to perform a better correction though it will take a fair amount to figure it out.
Thankfully, the CiBest BL45 portable projector features a keystone correction of plus or minus 15 degrees which puts it on par with projectors much larger.
Most of the portable projectors that we have reviewed feature a fair degree of compatibility with different file types or compatibility with different hardware. That said, few of the other portable projectors on our list provide the same degree of connectivity that the CiBest BL45 portable projector does. Specifically, this is one of the few portable projectors that we reviewed which features wireless connectivity. On top of that, even the wireless connectivity has variety as the CiBest BL45 portable projector can connect via Bluetooth or WiFi. Of course, the CiBest BL45 portable projector also provides some of the most robust file type compatibility eclipsing most of its competitors.
8. RAGU Z400 – Portable Projector with Lowest Noise Level
Out of all the brands on our list, RAGU is actually one of the few that has a legitimate presence outside of Amazon and other online outlets–though RAGU is definitely a company that relies primarily on online sales. That said, this company is not exclusively online nor do they specialize in visual equipment or electronics and instead provide a veritable smorgasbord of different products designed for the consumer market from the garden to the office to the field. On top of that, RAGU is also a brand that is more concerned about market share than price gouging.
One potential issue when it comes to portable projectors is that due to the requirements of such a light weight and compact profile, they are often not necessarily the most durable, cool, or quiet. When it comes to the RAGU Z400 portable projector, most of those aspects are more than covered and generally far better than their competitors. For instance, the cooling system used for this portable projector is designed such that it makes far less noise than most of the other products that are on our list–including those that also feature dual fan or venting functions. On top of that, the RAGU Z400 portable projector is also one of the lightest products that we reviewed which makes them even easier to transport than many of the other options we saw.
9. DR.J – Brightest Portable Projector
If you have not heard of THZY, then you should not feel too terribly bad as this is an only online company that has only been around for a few years. One thing that might be a bit counterintuitive is that even though THZY utilizes exclusively online outlets by which to do business, they are significantly less expensive than their competitors. Even more noteworthy is that THZY does not specialize in visual electronics or even consumer electronics more broadly–though they do have a tendency to a lean a bit heavier towards the electronics departments.
This begins primarily with the bulb which puts out an impressive 2000 lumens which is tied for the best on our list. On top of that, the THZY DR.J portable projector can also display in high definition resolutions on a screen size as small as 32” up to as large as 176”.
Though the visual quality of any piece of visual electronics equipment is inherently going to be the most important consideration, that does not mean it is the only feature to judge the product by. For higher-end consumer electronics, generally one of the ways that companies will distinguish themselves is by making their product convenient to use. For the THZY DR.J portable projector, one of the primary means of convenience it provides is a speaker system, so you do not have to worry about lugging around a home entertainment system as well as your “portable” projector. Beyond the speaker system, the THZY DR.J portable projector is also incredibly compatible with a wide variety of devices and file formats.
10. GooDee – Best Home Entertainment Portable Projector
Out of all the young companies that we reviewed–and a fair number of them have been in existence for less than 5 years–GooDee may very well be the youngest. That said, the company definitely seems to have a plan with this portable projector, though that makes a bit of sense considering that, though they do not specialize exclusively in visual electronics, GooDee is a company that focuses squarely on consumer electronics in general. As such, it makes sense that the company would make it a point to provide a better quality to one of the most overlooked features on a portable projector.
As such, the GooDee YG500 portable projector makes it a point to be the best all-in-one package in a portable projector profile by providing not only a speaker system but a subwoofer, so your movies and games have the proper amount of emphasis.
Though the GooDee YG500 portable projector is not positioned to be a higher end model of portable projector, it does still make it a point to provide some value outside of its superior audio quality. For instance, this is actually the second lightest portable projector that we reviewed and even features a smaller physical profile than many of the other products on our list. On top of that, the GooDee YG500 portable projector also makes it a point that you are not disturbed while watching or playing and features a well-designed cooling system that will help keep the projector quiet during operation.
11. LESHP Mini Projector – The Best Portable Projector for Watching Red and Blue 3D movies
Available at a very reasonable price, the LESHP Mini Projector packs a lot of value. It’s compatible with Android, iPhone, Mac, PC, and a variety of other devices, and connects to these devices with the use of a HDMI cable. Measuring in at 7.4 inches x 5.9 inches x 2.3 inches and weighing in at 2.3 pounds, it’s not quite as compact as some pocket projectors, but is still very easy to carry around.
At its peak, this projector can project images of up to 130 inches. Its minimum projection size is 37 inches. Providing a nice, clear picture, it provides image resolutions of up to 800 x 480. While it won’t project adequately in a bright room, it will project sufficiently in a dim room, and exceptionally in a dark room. It should be noted that this projector doesn’t make use of a rechargeable battery. It must be plugged in during all uses.
Pocket Projector Buyer’s Guide. Things to consider
Things you should look for when choosing your best pocket projector:
- Projector Size. It should be small enough to carry in your pocket or small bag. Make sure to look at the product dimensions before making a final purchase.
- Projection Size. Pocket projectors are capable of projecting a range of different sized images. The smallest projections usually measure around 15 inches while the largest typically measure around 150 inches. Choose accordingly.
- Projection Resolution. The higher the resolution, the better your picture is going to be. A good resolution for a pocket projector is around 854 x 480.
- Battery Life. Most popular are rechargeable batteries. So you need to ensure that your projector won’t stop working in the middle of use. Make sure your battery is powerful enough to last over a long period of time.
The technology behind and how does a pocket projector work?
A pocket projector works by connecting to your smartphone, tablet, or laptop via HDMI cable and then transmitting the picture.
You will ned a vertical, flat surface for your pocket projector. An ideal surface would be a typical white wall, though it’s also possible to project onto a hanging sheet or blanket. Ideally, you will project your image against a light-colored surface. This will make your picture as clear and concise as possible throughout the projection.
Benefits of owning a pocket projector
You could certainly watch videos and movies on your small smartphone, laptop, or tablet screen. It might get a little uncomfortable, especially if there are several people trying to watch. Almost every pocket projector allows you to take that small smartphone screen and project it so that it turns into a large movie screen. So you’ve got your projector, your device, HDMI cable, and a WiFi connection. As a result, you can produce large, immersive, moving images on the wall that’s in front of you.
In conclusion, smartphones, tablets, and laptops allow us to bring our technology and media with us just about anywhere. With the simple existence of a WiFi connection, you can tap into an endless array of tv shows, movies, videos, and more. Don’t limit yourself with small screens anymore. A pocket projector is a game changer here. By connecting to your smartphone, tablet, or laptop, a pocket projector is capable of transforming a miniscule phone screen into an all-immersive movie screen. So, all you need is a WiFi device, a WiFi connection, HDMI cable, and a high-quality pocket projector.
