G9 LED Bulbs Buyer’s Guide
When searching for the best value for your money it’s important to consider the following.
Size, Power, and Longevity
It is important to be aware of the size of the bulb that is being replaced and the size of the bulb that will be doing the replacing; not all bulbs will fit seamlessly into all lamps, fixtures, or designs.
G9 bulbs come in a variety of different wattages and voltages. It is important to replace the old existing bulbs with G9 compatible components to assure that your lighting fixtures will operate properly. Most common voltages are 110-130V. So each of these bulbs has its own projected lifetime. It is important to consider this factor when replacing such things as fixtures that are out of easy reach such as ceilings and hard to reach outdoor applications.
How many lumens should be in a 40 watt g9 bulb?
Well, it depends on what to consider a 40-watt. If you need to replace a standard incandescent 40-watt bulb it will be a 5W equivalent LED which produces 400lm brightness by average. So, a 40W equivalent LED should be around 400-500 lumens. A 60W equivalent will be 7W G9 LED and produce around 500-600 lm.
G9 LED Equivalents Table
Basic output efficiency of LED bulbs considered to be around 70-110 lumens per 1W. These numbers are also strongly influenced by matte polycarbonate materials. As a result, depending on their quality there could be a loss from 10% to 30% of brightness.Number of Units and Color Temperature
It is a good idea to replace all bulbs in a room or area at one time. Not only does this assure that all of the lightings is uniform but it will also ensure that the color of the lighting is universal and consistent.
Style
For applications that require an exposed bulb in a fixture, it is important to take the design and aesthetics of the bulbs into account. Many G9 bulbs offer a high-end appearance and elevated design elements compared to other halogen lighting solutions.
I need a G9 LED lightbulb to replace a halogen bulb in my oven range hood. The current halogen bulbs are 1.73 inches. A 2 inch long LED is too long to fit. Help me locate a shorter bulb.
The bulb you recommended is 2.44 inches. It won’t fit. I am also looking for a G9 LED that is less than 2″ long. No luck so far.
I too am looking for G9 LED bulbs that are 1.7 inches or less, a true halogen replacement. I don’t think they are able to miniaturise the LED drivers to that size yet unfortunately, everywhere I’ve looked they are way too long to fit in the older extractor hoods. If you find any, let me know!
Needing to find G9 led bulbs (3) to replace 60w halogen bulbs for a bathroom vanity light. Issue appears to be ability to use in a damp/humid environment.? Any help locating these would be appreciated. Thanks
Hello, did you ever find the 60w G9 led bulbs?
Bought bathroom light fixture and instruction sheet says only “G9 Base 60W”. I look but most say “T4” next to G9 and have loop pins. Can you please suggest correct bulb to buy…soft light (3000) is fine , LED, not dimmable)I have to buy 24 so I hope you’re correct, lol.
HI. I have a light fitting with 9 x 18W halogen bulbs which I would like to replace with LEDs but not sure which ones. The fitting is in my home office. I have found these ( NxtGen 3W LED G9 Warm White) and wanted to know if anyone has used them please? or if you can recommend an equivalent. Thanks, Ann
Hi, I’m replacing my G9 halogens in my crystal chandelier. The halogen bulbs give off a lovely warm glow viewed through the crystals.
What strength of G9 led bulb should I use that will best replicate the hue from the halogens I currently use?
Many thanks in advance for your response 🙂
Thanks…
Strange thing is, they are OK.
I am concerned that there is no mention about using G9 lamps on a two way lighting circuit, I have found that certain makes on switch off still glow (are sensitive to low end wattages)
Reliability is really a big issue. We have 6 in our main room and are replacing one or two every month. We have used different brands and varieties – LED and filament. All have been disappointing. We have replaced all the bulbs at least once in the last 6 months. The total switching operations might be 100 a month… double it … maybe 200 a month…
Why are all these G9 bulbs unreliable?
Jan,
Something is not right. Please have your electrical circuits checked for any and all safety issues such as voltage surges or under-voltages; switch damage, corrosion, improper installation or incompatibility — maybe improper or unneeded dimmer switch if you have one; wire type requirements; wire damage by animals (squirrels in attic??); grounding issues including no ground or GFCI problems; and aluminum wire terminating in copper connectors in the sockets/switches.
This is a safety issue which you should not ignore!!

Your “Best G9 LED Bulb”, the Kakanuo Warm White is listed as the only CRI 90 bulb. But, if you click on it and look at the specs, it says “CRI > 80”. If it were 90, they would have said 90.
CRI 90 is required in California. There are CRI 90 G9 bulbs, it just difficult to locate them.
